East To West: Trucks Driving

By Cynthia Connolly

Edition of 40, signed and numbered, hand-made book. Over 20 pages and extending 130 inches, this accordion folded photocopied book on cardstock shows off the logos and trucks that are driving from the east to the west in the United States. Using a film camera from the drivers’ seat, Connolly shot the trucks going in the opposite direction from her. Starting in the West, you see the wide-open spaces and trucks from a distance, as she drives east, the trucks are closer as the highways become more condensed. Shot in 1993, created in 1999, this book has a letter-pressed cover with original photos on the front and back. In the permanent collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the University of Colorado at Boulder library and many private collections.
